Design Build Joinery offers two Sash Window Double Glazing Solutions
-
Replacement slim double glazed sashes, installed into your existing sash box (window frame)
2. Complete new double glazed Seal Box windows
1. REPLACEMENT SASHES
Replacing original single glazed sliding sashes with bespoke double glazed sashes means you can get a double glazed solution without major disruption to the property. If the frames are in good condition, we can replace just the sliding parts, saving you money, minimizing disruption, and retaining the heritage of your home. Alternatively, we can manufacture and install complete new timber box sash windows including the frame.
TIMBER
The replacement sashes are manufactured from the finest timber, the choice of which will depend upon preference and budget.
GLAZING
We install slim glazing units, allowing us to manufacture sliding sashes using traditional carpentry methods, including solid glazing bars (instead of ones attached to the glass) which help to retain the window’s authentic look and feel. Another main feature of the slim glazing unit is the reduced sightline of the spacer bar between the two panes of glass, allowing us to manufacture narrower glazing bars and thereby closely replicating the existing sashes.
DOUBLE GLAZING SPECIFICATION
Slim 12mm or 14mm double glazed units, Planitherm Total+ glass (outer pane) and gas-filled a cavity.
Centre Pane U-Value of 1.5 Wm²K
Total Window U-Value of 1.8 Wm²K
2. DOUBLE GLAZED SEAL BOX
Our bespoke, double-glazed wooden box sash windows are manufactured in our own workshop and can be designed to match any existing window style, including Victorian and Georgian as well as contemporary styling.
Our box sash windows meet UK conservation criteria (including listed buildings) that comply with Part L of Building Regulations. providing crafted timber windows with modern thermal insulation qualities.
TIMBER
We select only the finest timbers from renewable sources, the choice will depend upon preference and budget.
GLAZING
As with the replacement sashes, we use slim glazing units, allowing us to manufacture sliding sashes using traditional carpentry methods, including solid glazing bars (instead of ones attached to the glass), to maintain the window’s authentic character and charm.
The reduced sightline from the double glazing units allows us to utilise narrower glazing bars, so we can recreate the majority of historic and traditional sash styles.
DOUBLE GLAZING SPECIFICATION
24mm (4/16/4) double glazed units, Low E internal glass keeps your home warm+Low iron outer glass and gas-filled cavity.

Q.Are your new double glazed sashes fully compliant with building regulations? Our complete new windows and doors comply with Document L Building Regulations. New sashes, casements or doors fitted into their existing frames do not have to comply as this type of work is classed as refurbishment and does not require certification. Listed buildings and some properties in conservation areas are exempt from Document L, and your local authority planning department will be able to advise.
-
Q:Is timber prone to movement?Timber’s beauty comes from the fact it is a natural material, and as a natural product some degree of movement in terms of expansion/contraction can be expected. However, with the timber that we use, this movement is kept to a minimum.
-
Q.Do timber windows warp over time?Low quality timber windows can warp over time, however, DBJ wooden windows are engineered to add strength, eradicate knots and resist twisting also we are confidently able to give a Comprehensive 10-year guarantee on all windows and doors.
-
Q.How often do timber windows need to be redecorated? We use 4 layer weathershield paint and stain finishes on all of our timber products to keep them looking good, however timber products aren’t maintenance free and will require regular maintenance to maintain the performance and look of the product. The regularity of maintenance will depend on the location of your property and where the wooden windows are located on the property. Our paint finishes will require maintenance every 3 years to 4 years in a moderate climate (non-coastal areas at low altitude) or every 2 to 3 years in extreme climates (coastal areas and high altitude). Our stain finishes will require maintenance every 2 to 3 years in a moderate climate (non-coastal areas at low altitude) or every 1 to 2 years in extreme climates (coastal areas and high altitude). Unsheltered windows will require more maintenance than those sheltered or partly sheltered. We recommend that the surface coating is inspected annually and if required you should re-coat the wood with stain or paint.
-
Q.Is there an alternative to timber windows that provide the traditional look? No, we don't supply uPVC windows actually that's not traditional look at all
-
Q.What glass options can I choose from? You can select from five different types of glass with our timber windows. These are: obscure, decorative, security, safety or anti-sun.
-

-
